Not only is the city council suppressing free speech they are doing it for the most petty of reasons.

Background: A couple of years ago, when Councilor Traci McGee ran for mayor, she held a live FB forum titled, "Telling the Truth Tuesdays" where she would review what went on in city council meetings and criticize other councilors for their positions on issues or their votes.

So what happened? The other cty councilors (in 2022) didn't like being called on the carpet (especially Mayor Coleman ). So Coleman introduced Ordinance 4159-A. According to the Feb. 14, 2022 council minutes, "Motion was made by Mayor Marlon J. Coleman, seconded by Councilmember Jaime Stout (sic) to direct Staff to revise existing City Council Policy 1-10 to include CENSORSHIP, penalties and possible removal rom City Council for behavior that puts creditability (sic) of City Council at risk."

Results: The ordinance passed 8 to 1 with the following Council Members voting to violate McGee's first amendment rights and the right of future councilors brave enough to criticize the city: Marlon Coleman, Jaime Stout, Evelyn Hibbs, Alex Reynolds, Stephanie Morgan, and Tracy Hoos.

Comments: It is scary when a municiapal government, in collusion with a city attorney who knows better, creates a law out of petty spite, to deny the free speech of a fellow council member. That's what fascist governments do. That's what dictators do. That's what banana republics do. That what communist and Marxist governments do. Am I saying that our city council is anyone one of those? No, but they've taken the first step.
